Arthur Leslie Miller was a reader in chemical pathology at Middlesex Hospital Medical School. He was born in London. His father, Herbert William Miller, was an engineer; his mother’s maiden name was Joyce. He was educated at Sir Walter St John’s Grammar School in London and then went on to study medicine at Middlesex Hospital Medical School. He qualified in 1950.
He was a house surgeon and casualty officer at the Middlesex Hospital and then a medical officer in the RAF. He returned to the Middlesex Hospital as a junior pathologist and then, from 1964, as a senior lecturer in chemical pathology. He became an honorary consultant in 1966 and a reader in 1974. He wrote various publications on aspects of chemical pathology.
Outside medicine he enjoyed gardening and collecting glassware.
In 1954 he married Joyce Coleshill. They had three daughters – Corinne, Deirdre and Fiona.
