Alexandre Minkowski was born in Paris. A paediatrician, he was a pioneer in the field of neonatal medicine. His research focused on the physiology of the newborn, the premature baby and the foetus, especially on the developing central nervous system and brain repair in children after the trauma of war.
A man of strong convictions, he was known for his outspokenness. He was deeply committed to the cause of humanitarian action for children in the third world and published several books on the philosophy of medicine.
