W. J. Bayne, son of William Bayne, was born in London. He matriculated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, in 1815, and obtained a scholarship in 1818. After graduating as thirteenth wrangler in 1819, he was elected to a fellowship at Trinity College. He went on to take the degree of M.D. in 1830. He practised at Bury St. Edmunds and Southampton and died in London.
