Ambuj Nath Bose was born in West Bengal and died at Nagpur. He was the son of Dr Sanat Kumar Bose who practised in Midnapore, and was a graduate of Calcutta Medical College, having gained the Goodeve scholarship in midwifery in 1913. He served in World War I and was awarded the M.B.E.

Following post-graduate studies in London he was appointed in 1926 professor of pathology and bacteriology at the newly established Patna Medical College, and quickly set up an excellent teaching unit. He had a life-long interest in the students of his college, of which he was for a time principal, and organised for them both a Students’ Union and a Former Pupils’ Association. Following service in World War II he was appointed principal of Nagpur Medical College. Dr Bose did not marry.
