2–3pm Dr Henry Oakeley, RCP Garden Fellow “Scurvy 1593 -1797, the saga of the ignored lemons”. Why it took two centuries and thousands of deaths before lemons were finally accepted for treating scurvy by the British Navy.
3–4pm Tea and tours of the medicinal garden by the garden fellows
4–5pm Professor Ruth Andrew, Professor of Pharmaceutical Endocrinology, University of Edinburgh, will explain nutraceutical, which encompasses dietary components which may have health benefits, including fortified foods, functional foods and dietary supplements (eg vitamins, minerals, and herbal extracts).
