Explore 500 years of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) history through this new anniversary heritage trail. Since its foundation in 1518, the RCP has collected over 6,000 paintings, sculptures and prints, 20,000 rare and historic books and significant medical artefacts. From portraiture by Sir Joshua Reynolds, Sir Thomas Lawrence and Johan Joseph Zoffany, to rare anatomical preparations and curious medical instruments, the RCP’s collections reflect the curious intersection of medicine and society. In this specially curated RCP500 heritage trail, the visitor will be guided through our Grade I listed building to view some highlights from our collection. A monthly changing display will reveal treasures from our stores and explore the connection of past and present. Alongside a new introduction from the curator, this highlights exhibition will reveal the stories behind our collections in a new light.
